William "Bill" Boyd Major, 74, of Mt. Sterling, died Sunday evening at the St. Joseph Hospital's Hospice Unit in Lexington. He was born November 10, 1937 in Christian County, Kentucky to the late Clifton and Mary Major.
Bill graduated from Vanderbilt University with a degree in medical technology. He was later employed in sales by the J.I. Case Co., Brinly Hardy Co. and Implement Sales Co. He was a leader member in the Boy Scouts of America, a Kentucky Colonel, a member and served as a deacon of the First Christian Church and University of Kentucky basketball fan.
Survivors include; his wife of forty-seven years, Nancy Major of Mt. Sterling; one son, Chris Major (Paige) of Naples, FL; one daughter, Lisa Lee (Ken) of Chattanooga, TN; four grandchildren, Kyra Peardon and Kendra Lee of Chattanooga, TN, Laurel and Blaine Major of Naples, FL; one brother, John Major (Ginny) of Smithfield, VA; one niece, Ginny Keep of Louisville; one nephew, J.T. Major (Kim) of Auburn, KY; his pet cat, Patches.
In lieu of flowers, the family request that contributions be made to the First Christian Church, 222 West Main Street, Mt. Sterling, KY 40353.
Memorial service will be Monday, April 30, 2012 at 2:00PM at the First Christian Church with a Visitation/Reception following. Rev. Bill Bingham will be officiating.
